Frequent questions

Who made this?

Hi! I am Alexandre Cisneiros, a software engineer. Dominogue is a personal project that I built and work on my spare time. There is no big company behind this, just someone who wanted to make a fun game for himself and decided to publish it because others may enjoy it too.

All the art assets in the game were made by me, unless stated differently on the game’s credits page. This explains why some of them are so bad: I’m good at coding, not at drawing!

Why dominoes?

Dominoes are a very popular game where I’m from. It’s played by people of all ages, both for fun and competitively. In university, my friends would play in between classes.

I wanted to create a game that used the concept of dominoes and some of their mechanics, but not necessarily traditional dominoes gameplay. Inspired by other games I’ve played, such as Balatro, I started to code something to see what would come out of it, and thus Dominogue was born.

Why are double pieces called “carts”?

This is one of a few cultural/linguistic easter eggs buried in Dominogue. There are many regional names for different aspects of dominoes, and where I’m from we call pieces with the same value on both side a “carroça”, a word in Portuguese that means a wooden cart.

I thought it would be funny to put a literal translation in the game, and in fact there are multiple other instances of this throughout Dominogue. For example, some joker are named after literal translations of how each piece value is called in Portuguese.

Are you still working on this?

Yes! Dominogue is being actively developed. New features and bug fixes will keep on coming. I like to publish incremental updates often instead of big batches of changes, so keep the app up to date to enjoy the latest of Dominogue.

How can I support this project?

First of all, thank you! Dominogue is a free to play game, but there are multiple ways you can support its development. If you enjoy the game, giving it a positive review on the app stores goes a long way.

Also, there’s an option in game to leave a tip to the developer (that’s me), which will appear on the Game Over screen and in the Credits page. This is completely voluntary and won’t bring you any in-game advantages. If you are having fun and would like to support further development, this is a way to do it. You can also leave a tip on Ko-fi.

I have a suggestion / I found a bug / I want to get in touch

Feedback is very welcome! Keep in mind that this is a one person spare time project, so not everything you suggest may be implemented (or if it is, it may take time to land).
